On July 21, 2016 at the premises of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection the second meeting of the Steering Committee on Twinning project «Assistance with implementation of SPS (sanitary and phytosanitary measures) commitments under the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement» was held.
The project is implemented together with the State Food and Veterinary Service of the Republic of Lithuania and Abruzzo and Molise Region Experimental Animal Health Care Institute “G. Caporale” (IZSAM), Italy.
The goal of the project is to assist the Government of Ukraine to achieve approximation and harmonization of SPS measures with the EU and the implementation and enforcement of the legal basis and in so doing open-up greater opportunities for Ukrainian producers of food and agricultural products to trade with the EU.
Head of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection Volodymyr Lapa greeted the participants of the meeting and underlined the importance of the Twinning project implementation for the purposes of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. In his turn, the BC Project Leader and Deputy Head of the State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service of Ukraine Oleksandr Verzhyhovskyi noted a significant contribution of the project partners from countries participating in the consortium within the framework of the project implementation.
Resident Twinning Advisor Petras Machyulskis presented the quarterly project report, spoke about the measures implemented by all components of the project and outlined plans for the next reporting period.
Also Deputy Director of the State Food and Veterinary Service of the Republic of Lithuania and the MS Project Leader Vidmantas Paulauskas took part in the meeting.
From the Center for Adaptation of the Civil Service the meeting was attended by the Senior Consultant on the Twinning Coordination Sector of the Projects Management Unit Juliia Fedyna.
For reference: since 2005 according to the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated on October 6, 2005 № 1424/2005 «The Issue on the Twinning Programme Implementation in Ukraine» the National Agency of Ukraine on Civil Service directs and coordinates the activity on preparation and implementation the Twinning Programme in Ukraine. Moreover the NAUCS is considered to be the national coordinator of the institutional building instrument TAIEX and CIB Programme according to the relevant regulatory acts. For the purpose of the Twinning, TAIEX and CIB appropriate coordination was created the Twinning Programme Administration office in Ukraine which functions are executed by the Center for Adaptation of the Civil Service to the standards of the European Union.
